The Prison of your Body
The Prison of Her Body is a novel written in 1961, when its author was 22 years old. It was awarded the only novel prize awarded in Guatemala at the Central American and Panama Floral Games Contest in 1962.
It remained stored for more than 60 years, and it was not until 2023 that it aroused the interest of personalities from the literary world in Guatemala.
And now that it has come to light, it is extremely interesting to reveal the thoughts, ideas, personality and other characteristics of a young woman of that time, visibly ahead of her time, which can offer an exciting terrain for analysis and inevitable comparison with young people of the 21st century.
Walking through the work until its ending presents a stormy journey inside the protagonist, who struggles to overcome everything that keeps her imprisoned, in a strange duality of body and spirit.
Does the actions of Magdalena, the protagonist, reflect the usual behavior of that time? What was it that drove her to this endless search?
Reading this work will give rise to reflecting on these questions and their possible answers.
