Ana Maria Rodas
Cities of My Body
The poetry of Ana María Rodas is a reference for Guatemalan literature. It is also true for women's writing, and for the literary canon of the rest of the world. The poems and letters that are collected within the anthology that makes up Ciudades de mi cuerpo, present us with the intimate and lyrical point of view of a woman who was forced to march far ahead of her time. The work has early verses, 1973, and more recent ones, 2015. The highlight is the choice of the poems, by the researcher, Aida Toledo, which allows us, for the first time, an unobstructed reading, in time, of the work of Rhodes.
La Pepita editorial promotes literature written by women. Our goal is to learn from those who, like María Josefa García Granados and Saborío, La Pepita, fight, actively and passively, to change the reality that confronts us. We took her name to rescue the values that led her to found literary salons, newspapers, and write under a male pseudonym (so that she would be taken into account), as if she were our own Guatemalan George Sand.
